The Lovely Lindean Loch
Lindean Loch is a very special place, and was designated a SSSI – Site of Special Scientific Interest – in 1977. There are noticeboards near the car park outlining the history and ecology of the loch – amazing to see how the area has changed through time from a source of lime for agriculture, to a reservoir for drinking water and now an important place for both nature and recreation.
We are delighted to trial a sauna experience in this wild space thanks to agreement from SBC and NatureScot. We wish to help regular visitors and new visitors to respectfully make the most of this wild space, by offering a new view from the window of our luxury Nordic Sauna, Beyla.
Walk or swim before your sauna
There is a good earth track of about a mile circling the loch. You can walk it in approximately 30 mins to an hour. Wild swimmers are asked to use the designated beach at the south of the loch as a place to swim from (you’ll find a bench and a life ring here) – it takes about 5 minutes to walk to this spot from the car park. Remember to swim safely, and in company if you can. These activities are at your own risk. More information on the area is available in this leaflet – Paths around Selkirk, look for Route 4.
Sauna in nature – a perfect combination
Extending the benefits of sauna can be as simple as taking a walk first. Through this year we will be looking at ways to enhance your sauna experience by providing complementary opportunities like exercising outside, learning about nature or simply sitting down to relax in a beautiful place. Lindean offers a great example of this – and we have other exciting locations lined up for later in the year.
Respecting nature and the Scottish Outdoor Access Code
