New experiences at Cedar Hus

We want you to have the best experience possible for your wild sauna with Cedar Hus, and though it is hard to improve on a hot Finnish sauna filled with löyly (~steam), there are many ways you can build on this experience. We have added a set of sauna add-ons which you can book online with your sauna.

Organic oat and calendula scrub
A lovely way to exfoliate as you cool down, as an alternative or addition to the cold plunge. A small cotton bag full of the good stuff is delivered to you soaking in a bowl of water. You then exfoliate your body when you come out of the sauna. This releases creamy oat milk, which is great for skin conditions, especially those dry elbows and knees. It’s a gentler alternative to cooling down in the cold plunge.

Birch whisks
Whisking is a great way to increase your circulation and a favourite treatment in Finland and in many sauna cultures. Whisks are made from different trees, but birch is most often used. Before soap was common, whisking was a useful trick because birch contains saponins, phenols, sugar and essential oils which cleanse the skin. You can also use it like a sponge to wash and exfoliate your body.

Self-whisking, or whisking with a friend releases traditional sauna aromas, and boosts your circulation. Concentrate on the back of your legs; arms – especially inside your elbow; and your back. We will have your whisk soaked and ready to use, with the option to use birch infused water on the sauna rocks if you’d like.

Sauna ice lolly
A cooling treat at the end of the sauna, we deliver you a fun ice lolly in the last few minutes of your sauna. We usually have a couple of flavours to choose from. Favourites involve vibrant orange sea buckthorn, which is a real Scandinavian favourite, full of antioxidants, Vitamins C and E. It can be face-twistingly sour so we like it mixed with yoghurt and banana to take the edge off, or with fruit juice for a lactose free version. We are also dabbling with gorgeous purple hibiscus lollies – the recipe is tweaked all the time as we try to get it just right!

Aufguss aromatherapy balls
These are sometimes available depending on where Beyla is situated. It’s not as easy as it looks to make sauna snowballs in wild! However, we are persevering with this as we love the infusions of essential oil that the ice balls release, filling the space with steamy waves of soothing or invigorating scents and delighting sauna-goers.

Sauna hat
We always have woollen sauna hats available for you to use in the sauna. These ‘tinkerbell’ hats (as my daughter calls them) have an important function in keeping your head cooler and your hair protected from the heat. If you are a regular sauna-ite, you may wish to purchase your own hat. Ours come from Lithuania, and are the real deal.
